MARKED Eternal Guardians Book 1 edition by Elisabeth Naughton Paranormal Romance eBooks

Someone is going to have to explain to me how an author who has 'been on every major best seller list' can write as poorly as Elisabeth Naughton in 'Marked.' The flaws in this blessedly brief book range from numerous and significant errors in the conventions of writing to near non-existent character development and a weak, uninteresting plot. The only thing I can assume is that this must have been an early effort of Ms. Naughton's that she dug out of the bottom of a desk drawer and decided to publish because she needed the money. If this is the first in a continuing series, I believe I'll pass.

MARKED Eternal Guardians Book 1 edition by Elisabeth Naughton Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

First book from the Eternal Guardians series features Theron, the leader of the Argonauts. For some reason, he wasn't keen to being friends with humans or half-breeds, let alone getting acquainted with them. He was supposed to get married to Isadora, heir to the kingdom of Argolea, but something happened to change his destiny. Something to do with a human named Casey, working in a strip club, hunted by Daemons and needed by King Leonidas. But there's a consequence once Casey realized the reason why she was being pursued. Her life was at stake, both at the hands of the demons and the king himself. Could Theron sacrifice her even though he knew she was The One he'd been waiting for?

I love Elisabeth Naughton. She seemed to have lived with the Greek Gods a long time ago, because every story she wrote made me rethink of my former classes at school about Greek mythology. I thought I knew all about Zeus and Hades and Hercules and Athena. I thought I already know about Jason and the Golden Fleece. But I was clearly mistaken because I really had no idea about the Argonauts. Now, Naughton had convinced me that these warriors had their own stories to tell, and I couldn't wait to meet them all.

Theron is like the antihero protagonist I can't help but take notice. There's something sinister about him that I like, which is weird. But when he unleashed his true power, I was surprised to stay transfixed by him. He and Casey rule the human world, the colony, the Olympus, the kingdom and most especially, the bedroom. Their sexual tension was killing me.

I would be needing a dozen pitcher of water if I would continue reading the next eight books in the series. Whew!
The plot was very good, the concept excellent. There were no real spelling/grammar issues.
However, "I" (others may not) had a hard time "believing" the two main characters (Theron and Casey) love for each other, not with sayings from Theron like "I've always despised your kind", "the fates were cruel to give him a half breed as a mate", "I'm taking her to my home (another astral plane) so she can fulfill the prophecy and die so her half sister (that she didn't know existed) can live". Also, Casey never seemed to have a problem being called a "half breed" (over and over) and never cared that Theron NEVER liked "her kind", never wanted anything to do with them and despised the fact that a "half breed" was given to him as a mate. The ONLY reason, that I could tell that Theron wanted to be with Casey is because she was the one the fates (cruel fates, as Theron put it) destined for him, the ONLY one he'd ever get. So, Theron forced himself to learn to like her and see her more than just a half breed.
I also got a little confused in the story line and exactly what the prophesy was really about.
I know all of this may sound like reasons not to read the story, or for me to give it 4 stars. However, the story was actually very good. I know, I'm being contradiction, which I'm sorry for but, I think it had great potential and was worth reading.
Because of the negative reviews, I was leery of taking the time to download and read this novel despite the fact that it was free. Especially because of its length - I feel compel to try and finish any book I download or least give it my best effort. I'M GLAD THAT I TOOK THE CHANCE!

I will not recap the novel as others have already done so but I will state why I think this novel is a great beginning to a new series that I am now interested in.

World building is fantastic and descriptive - so much so that a reader can easily imagine the environment and surroundings.

Characters are belivable - not made so perfect that you want to gag and cannot relate to them.

Alpha males - I want the male characters to be Alphas - strong, protective, caring - not wimps.

Smooth reading - no glaring editing mistakes, sentences or paragraphs that you have to read over and over to understand

Plot line - original with twists and a smooth flow to it with NO GAPS

Heat factor - I want "Heat" between the hero & heroine

Stong Female character - not in strength so much but mentally - able to stand up for herself

A book that grips my attention and does not let go.

THIS NOVEL HAD ALL THE ABOVE AND MORE!

Warning
Despite what one reviewer stated, there is NO WAY THAT THIS NOVEL CAN BE READ IN AN HOUR not unless the reader is skipping whole chapters at a time! I am a speed reader and usually can and do read a book a night, this is a full length intense novel - not a light read. It is not a "feel good", "fluffy" read either - there are fights to survive, heart rending scenes, Heros that do have flaws. If you are not into paranormal - no, you will not like this book. If you are into "sweet" - no, you will not like this book.

I recommend that while readers need to be leery of 4 or 5 star reviews because there are too many "paid" reviewers out there (in books or money) that seem to have NEVER EVER gotten a hold of a bad book - before writing off a book with negative reviews - take the time to investigate all the rating and reviews for that particular reviewer whether 1 star or 5 star. Just as I did in this case - I found out that most of the negative reviewers gave low ratings to books that I already knew I liked and high ratings to books that I would NEVER be interested in.
