I was introduced to Penny Vencenzi by a NYC friend, and took him at his word that this was a page turner. I ordered it for my Kindle Fire (along with two other novels) right before I went into the hospital for back surgery. I chose No Angel because it seemed to be an early book for the author and I like to start early when there is a long list from which to choose. I had no expectations, but was absolutely delighted with what I found. The protagonist was engaging, the plot line interesting with plenty of twists and turns, and, for what I'm sure is close to 1000 pages -- does one ever know how many pages on a Kindle? -- it kept me occupied as I recovered through physical therapy. No Angel (Audible Audio Edition) Penny Vincenzi Carrington MacDuffie Phoenix Books Books Reviews
Love! Love! Love! This book/series/author! First time reader of this author and have loved everything else by this author since, but this is still my favorite series. Loved the setting of this book in a Publishing house with a woman at the top and what that all trickles down to her work and family. You won't be disappointed!
I could not put this book down and do not be discouraged by its length. I am on the third of this series and wonder what I will do when I finish.
I have long been a fan of this author. Her first (and as far as I know only) triology is simply a very good read. The book transports you into the world of the characters - they seem real and you become genuinely interested in their fate. I have just started Book 2 of the triology and so far it is as good as the first part. There are many twists and turns and just when you think you have something all worked out - you are in for the next surprise. If you enjoy family sagas spanning generations with historical background thrown in - this is for you! (P.S. I bought this for my - although it states paperback at the top. The whole triology is available on .)
This book was a page-turner, but comfortable at the same time. It was wonderfully long, and so you could immerse yourself in the stories in the book for a very long time. It was a great escape.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and learning a bit about World War I at the same time. The characters are interesting and 3-dimensional. And, although the book is quite long, it never seemed to drag. I will certainly continue with the series.
No Angel is the first book in a trilogy, it is important to remember to read them in sequence, then you build up the history and it makes much more sense. The lead characters are strong, charismatic, and sensual, wonderful combination. A lot of story lines all leading back to the publishing company everyone is a part of. I found a few extremely touching demonstrations of sensitivity from the main characters, who through out the story quite unexpected, when the characters show such strength. This is the first book to read, the second book is "Something Dangerous" and the third is "Into Temptation". A wonderful journey not to be missed. I purchased this book at .

This starts a sweeping family saga in a trilogy, beginning in England in the early 1900's. The focus of the first book is Celia, who is from a wealthy and titled family. Celia is a young woman who gets what she wants and nothing will stand in her way. She gets her marriage to Oliver Lytton by becoming pregnant, and after marriage slowly delves into his family's publishing business. The advent of the Great War changes the lives of women across the country and brings a new strength and resolve to Celia as her family grows. While Celia may be the center of the story, the heart centers on a young girl in a poor family that Celia becomes involved with, pulling Barty from the slums into her own family. Being neither "fish nor fowl" makes life a struggle for Barty but also provides her opportunities beyond her dreams. The family drama is interwoven with key events from the times, from the Titanic to the role of women in society and the terrible traumas of war. This is well worth its substantial length.
