What can be done with the zombie genre that hasn't already been done? Tell it from the zombie perspective. This was an incredibly original story line and if you think you know what a zombie is thinking all of the time, you're probably wrong. This book definitely has it's disturbing moments, and has actually introduced me to the word ass-belch,of which I found insanely funny. (I know, I probably lead a sheltered life). The relationship between the zombie and the little girl was endearing, even though the acts commited by the zombie, even in the presence of little Zoe, were graffic and horrific, you somehow found a sense of heart-warming compassion by the end of some of the scenes. I know, that doesn't make sense, does it? But it happened...

Cool book. For those into the zombie genre, this is something you haven't read before. You need to check it out.

Shreds of Humanity edition by mj Hangge Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

It took a while to get sympathetic with the main character but the zombie oriented thrust of this book was refreshingly bizarre. I had never contemplated the toilet routines of the undead until this book. I enjoyed becoming familiar with the characters, watching the struggles the main character faced as things progressed. Good stuff, but the ending, boy I didn't see that coming. Definitely looking forward to more from this author.
I must confess that when this book was suggested to me by one of the author's fellow writers I was interested but not overly so. I figured ok well I will go take a look and see thinmking to myself that if it were too much of a chore to read I could just delete it. I could not have been MORE wrong in the way I would feel about this book!! From the beginning I was hooked on the new and wonderful idea....tell a zombie story from the eye and mind of the zombie! Even with that start I sort of half expected the author to switch back and forth between a 'human' and a 'zombie' point of view. I am pleased to say that not only did it stay first person zombie, but it kept my interest from beginning to end.
Well done!! I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this talented author with a fresh outlook on an old tale.
I read ALOT of books, and have been stuck on Zombies since the last season of The Walking Dead went off; this book takes a whole different look from the Zombies point of view. I never really ever put much thought into whether they had one, lol. But this is not a funny book. It is pretty darn serious, really makes you realize that maybe everything in life is not exactly what it seems. Although we all know there are no zombies (or do we???), it does make you realize that humans are a bit short-sighted sometimes, and maybe, just maybe...there is a bit more humanity where we never thought to see it. If you like Zombie books, this is very interesting. I took off one star because it did drag a little, no pun intended...
I don't give a review very often but I want the author to know how simply wonderful his tale was. If you have read the other reviews you already know that this is from the zombie point of view, what others seem to neglect to mention that this also a tale of the most purest love, parent and child. The roads that Mr. Hangge takes you down, the trials and tribulations, the blood and gore(yes there is some but it fits and isn't overwhelming) as this zombie makes his way through the world is amazing. I will say that I am looking forward to reading more from this talented author and I will be continueing to promote this novel to others. Too bad there is only 5 stars offered for reviews because I would give so much more. Mr. Hangge, please do continue to share your tales in your unique style. I will be waiting to read the next one!
This is a unique zombie tale told from the point of view of one of the undead. We are never shown any other zombie's thoughts, however, it is apparent something is different about this zombie. This is a former man who retains some spark of his former humanity, and that bit of humanity latches on to a little blond human girl he calls Zoe (Zoe reminding him of his own, now dead, little girl). At first the zombie disease holds complete control over this former man and he hunts for the little girl and her father in order to eat them. After seeing the others of his kind take down and eat the little girl's parents, something snaps inside his diseased mind and he has a sort of epiphany, becoming the little girl's protector instead. Even though this "man" must now appear as a horribly deformed member of the undead, the little girl still recognizes the protector within the hulk and decides to join him, becoming his pseudo child wandering the now decimated land with her zombie companion.

There is a lot of graphic descriptions of zombie bodily functions and the ongoing corruption of an undead body, so this might not be a story for the squeamish. However, there are also several touching moments as well, especially describing the interaction between the two main characters.

The story builds to an epic action sequence where a kind of final battle between the remaining humans and the zombie hoards takes place and our "man" stands alone outside human and zombie kind giving his last ounce of strength his horribly decomposing body will allow in order to save his Zoe.

Overall, I thought this was a good and unique take on the zombie genre and it kept my interest. But, I have two criticisms of the story. First, I thought the story did get a bit repetitive, with the continuing mental struggle of the main character and the accompanying internal dialogue. Second, I would have left out the Epilogue altogether. I think the author was trying to add a shocking twist to the end of the book, but to me it actually sort of cheapened the story and I would have rather it just ended without the Epilogue.
